Facebook: 2B Videos Viewed Per Month

Facebook is increasingly becoming a hub for online video viewing, with more than 20 million videos being uploaded to the social network each month — and more than 2 billion videos being watched. Those two stats, given exclusively to NewTeeVee by a Facebook spokesperson, underscore the growing importance of video as a communications medium on the social networking site. The number of uploads, in particular, has grown pretty substantially over the past year. Last March, Facebook said that it received on average 415,000 video uploads a day, or about 12 million a month, 40 percent of which came directly from webcams. And as more mobile devices that are video-ready enter the market, we can expect the number of mobile videos to increase. Last summer, for instance, Facebook released an update to its iPhone app enabling users to directly upload video to the site.

Intel Could Add WebM Hardware Acceleration

Intel could add Google’s WebM to the list of video formats that have hardware acceleration built into its processors for consumer electronics devices, according to a report from ComputerWorld. But that support won’t come in time for the first generation of Google TV products to leverage it. As part of its WebM Project, Google released its VP8 codec with an open source, royalty-free license at its I/O developers conference last week. Along with that announcement came a list of partners, including hardware and chip makers that plan to support the WebM initiative. But surprisingly, despite the fact that rivals AMD, ARM and NVIDIA all were named as partners, Intel was not on that list.

Sunday Sky Builds Dynamic Videos For e-Commerce Sites

A new startup has emerged to make it easier for e-commerce and other online sites to add videos to their websites, in an effort to increase consumer engagement and purchase conversion. With its dynamically created video service, Sunday Sky provides those sites with videos that highlight product features but are always up to date. Sunday Sky takes existing web assets, such as photos and product descriptions, and transforms those assets into a limitless number of web videos. Because the video is created dynamically by relying on product information, the videos are always up-to-date with the latest information from the website. So if a product’s price is reduced or its ratings change, the video will automatically adjust to the new information that is available to it. (You can watch demos of the Sunday Sky videos here.)

how to: 5 Ways to Convert Your Video Files

H.264, Ogg Theora, MP4, Xvid, MKV, FLV: The world of online video can be pretty confusing. Not only are there tons of different formats and acronyms, but various devices and services actually have vastly different requirements. A video you downloaded via BitTorrent most likely won’t play on your iPhone, and the software that comes with your Flip camera won’t be of much use to prepare an upload for Wikipedia…..

How video players could (or should) look like to deliver great user experience. | VideoRetailer.org - Exploring the Intersection of Video and e-Commerce.

Video works for e-retailers. In 2010, we already know that landing pages and product sites with video convert better than those without. But the mayority of thoses sites follow a simple presentation formula: product pages including a (more or less sophisticated) video player that reproduces relevant content about the product in question.

2010: not without video marketing (part 1.)

2009 was a good year for practitioners of video marketing. We saw some really encouraging results -better performance of landing and product pages that include video than those that don’t- especially from e-retailers, like e-bags, Zappos or Pool Tables……

newteevee: Ooyala Enables Micro Payments...

The competition is heating up among white-label video platforms that serve broadcast and cable networks as they make more of their video content available online and on-demand. The latest offer comes by way of Ooyala, which says it can now enable major media customers to launch online video services with new monetization models, such as micropayments. But for programmers that want to connect with cable companies to offer up TV Everywhere services that tie into cable subscription information, this might not be the right platform.
